Recreation & Leisure Studies Internships
Students pursuing a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies have the opportunity to apply the knowledge, methods, and leadership techniques learned in academic courses in real-world settings through internships. Generally completed during a student's senior year, internships allow students to gain a minium of 560 hours of experience at an agency that provides therapeutic recreation services.

inpatient mental health facility - Riverridge Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Kennebunk, ME
inpatient and residential care for those with traumatic brain injury - Cedars Nursing Care Center, Portland, ME
providing various levels of care for older adults - Bayside Neurorehabilitation Center, Portland, ME
day treatment program for those with various traumatic and non-traumatic brain health issues - Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough, ME
long term care for older adults - St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lewiston, ME
Recreation Therapists serve on inpatient psychiatric units providing services for children through older adults - Maine Medical Center, Portland, ME
Recreation Therapists serve on the Elder Life Program providing support services for older adults admitted to the hospital - Maine Center for Integrated Rehabilitation, Fairfield, ME
out-patient services for those with traumatic brain injury - Center for Therapeutic Recreation, Portland, ME
serving children and adults with a wide variety of developmental, physical, and psychiatric disabilities in a community-based environment - Denver Parks & Recreation Department, Special Needs Program, Denver CO
providing Therapeutic Recreation services to area citizens with a wide variety of disabilities - The Janet Pomeroy Center, San Francisco, CA

Enrollment in the Nature Tourism Minor can increase your understanding and enjoyment of nature while enhancing future employment opportunities in ecotourism and adventure recreation businesses, wilderness equipment outfitters, or organizations that focus on environmental education.
