Copyrighted Material
How it involves you:
Since you are using the USM network, you are responsible for what you download. Here at ResNet, our job is to inform network users of acceptable computing procedures, and one thing we would like to make clear to all users on the USM network is that of copyright and it's affect on you. Copyright is a broad category which could not be fully covered in a section of a ResNet site. We urge you to do your own investigation on this topic and learn what "fair use" is and how it affects you and the network. Copyright is protection of the material that is produced, whether it be a song, video, movie or book. It cannot be reproduced and distributed without the creators consent, which usually includes a fee. The university's network allows material to be distributed over it as long as it is not copyrighted. Your job, as a student, is to recognize what is or isn't copyrighted. And unless you created it, it's probably copyrighted.
Downloading Copyrighted Material
