End of Year Closing Notice for Current Residents
Residents must check out of their residence halls within 24 hours of their last final or by 5 pm on Friday, May 11th, 2012, whichever comes first! Residents who have signed up for summer housing will receive letters with further instructions.
INFORMATION BELOW OUTLINES THE PROCESS FOR LEAVING:
The buildings will be locked at 5pm on May 11th, 2012 and no students will be allowed in the buildings after this time except for graduating seniors who have made prior arrangements with their Resident Directors. Please note that your card will not open the door after 5 pm. The last meal served by Dining Services will be dinner on Friday, May 11th from 4 pm to 6 pm.
CHECK OUT:
Before leaving the residence hall, you must officially check out.
1. Plan ahead: Schedule a check-out appointment with your Resident Assistant.
2. Thoroughly clean your room; any cleaning that is required after you leave will be charged to you. SAMPLE COST: Clean Floor $27, Trash Removal $10/bag.
3. Make sure that all University furniture is in your room. Missing furniture will be billed to you. SAMPLE COST: Desk $363, Dresser $325.
4. All parts of the Microfridge must be cleaned and the unit unplugged. The refrigerator and freezer doors are to be left open. Failure to properly clean the unit will result in a $50.00 cleaning charge for each unit, i.e. freezer, microwave, fridge.
5. Check out with your RA. You will sign the Room Inventory Form and turn in our key (late keys WILL NOT be accepted). Failure to return your key will result in a bill for a lock change, which now costs us, and you, $120.00!
6. There is no storage available in the residence halls. Please plan accordingly.
7. A large dumpster, located near Dickey Wood, has been provided for bulky trash items. Donate reusable items to your hall’s Freecycle area—see your RD for details.
8. Standard charges for missing/dirty/damaged articles are available from your RD.
If you have any questions, please speak with your RD. Custodial staff and Resident Assistants cannot promise you will not be billed. The Resident Director determines appropriate billing after students have checked out.
QUIET HOURS: Important! 23-hour quiet hours will begin on Thursday, May 3rd, 2012 at 9 pm and continue through the official closing date of the residence halls. Close monitoring of these quiet hours will be required so that everyone can sleep and study for finals throughout the week. There will be a “study break” between 8 pm and 9 pm every night.
QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS:
If you have any questions or concerns about moving out of the residence halls, please see your Resident Director immediately. You may also contact Residential Life at 780-5240 or email us at reslife@usm.maine.edu.
