Community of Aspiring Teachers (CAT) Living Learning Community
COMMUNITY OF ASPIRING TEACHERS (CAT) Living Learning Community
CAT will provide students interested in entering the teaching profession with opportunities to support each others' aspirations and engage with faculty and practicing teachers. Students living in CAT will have the opportunity to:
- take introductory education courses on-site in the residence hall
- receive close advising about course of study and career planning on-site
- participate in co-curricular activities designed to help build strong relationships among learning community members and help CAT students better understand how they learn and work
- receive special orientations to University resources
- receive mentoring and support from others who are studying to be teachers and who are practicing teachers
- participate in lectures, films and symposia about education
- connect to state and national professional education associations through a local chapter of S.E.A.M., the Maine Education Association Student Program for aspiring teachers
- participate in service learning in K-12 schools and local organizations that support the growth and development of children and adolescents
- engage in social events for CAT members
All students interested in teaching at the elementary and secondary levels are encouraged to apply.
