Community of Arts
COMMUNITY OF ARTS (COA) - 2nd Robie Andrews
The Community of Arts (COA) is a thriving community where students integrate their artistic studies with their residential experiences. COA provides a venue for students, faculty and staff to interact outside of the classroom. COA encourages student, faculty and staff programs that foster innovative and interdisciplinary learning experiences that bring the intellectual life of the University in close alliance with the student's lives outside of the classroom.
COA participation is not limited to arts based majors but is open to all students at USM. Participants are welcome to sign up for housing in Robie-Andrews Hall where our program is housed; however, residence is not required to participate. COA strives to bring together students with an interest in the arts and allow them to express their creativity and explore the world of the arts. COA offers a wealth of student-taught seminars, including such topics as oil painting, improvisational theater and poetry.
One of the most popular activities that COA puts on is the monthly Coffee House where students are encouraged to perform in front of their friends and neighbors. Coffee, tea, and a variety of other beverages are served as well as some tasty treats.
