newest residence hall on the Gorham campus is centered in
the heart of the Gorham
campus. When finished, the building will be the
focal point of the Gorham campus, providing breathtaking
and spectacular views of the White Mountains of New Hampshire
and the lakes region of southern Maine.
This New hall also has the distinction of being the first
LEED certifiable residence hall on the Gorham campus. USM
has been working with our architects and construction teams
toward completing the requirements for LEED
certification for a green building. The university
has taken extra care in monitoring the materials used during
the construction and the planning phases of the new residence
hall.
Along with obtaining the LEED certification, this new hall
will be home to USM's newest Living Learning Community.
This community will have a live-in faculty member and will
be centered around environmental issues and environmental
science.
The new hall will house 296 students on 3 floors in close
proximity to Bailey Hall, the John Mitchell Center and USM's
athletics facilities. The rooms in this new hall are set
up in apartment and suite style living. Apartments
and suites have their own private bathrooms, are fully
furnished and feature, amongst other luxuries, air conditioning,
full refrigerators or Microfridges, cable access and internet
access in every room. New to USM's residential halls will
be wireless internet access in the common areas. Students
will also be able to relax in the study lounge or play some
ping pong in the recreation room.
One
of the key features of this building is the main entrance. The front
desk of the building will be staffed with security personnel 24 hours a
day. Students will be able to have their mail sent to the new hall and
have access to their mailboxes right inside of the building
