In service to our students and our mission, we offer comprehensive programming; the Learning Initiative (LI) is a year long educational program designed to help students be successful at USM.  The three major goals of our Learning Initiative are for all of our students to develop:

 1. A sense of belonging in the USM community by establishing strong personal and professional networks with other students, staff and faculty in the institution. 2. Confidence in their academic skills as well as knowledge of resources available to them (e.g. Tutors, Advisors, Research Assistance etc.). 3. Development of personal and professional goals for their time at USM.

Brooks Student Center

The Brooks Student Center is ready with a backup generator and will have food service and electricity, even if the rest of Gorham campus loses power. Residents, please take advantage of the space if the power goes out at any point during the next couple of stormy days! If you haven't yet done so, you may want to sign up for USM's Emergency Warning System. http://www.usm.maine.edu/usmalert/ You can also call the USM Storm Line at 207-780-4800 for information about USM closings.
