The mission of the Office of Research Administration and Development is to promote and support research, scholarship and creative activity; to assist faculty, staff and students in obtaining intramural and extramural support; to serve as an advocate for the value of research at USM; and to encourage the use of research, scholarship and creative activity to enrich education, enhance commercialization and development, and to serve the community.

Thinking Matters, our annual celebration of student research and creativity, is being held Friday April 26, 2013 on the Portland Campus and is in need of volunteers help to make this year’s event a success.

The Commercialization Gap Fund Program has the objective of expanding the commercialization of USM technology by providing seed support for the development of innovations with commercial potential and allowing more USM technology to reach the marketplace.

All USM faculty is invited to submit proposals for the development of research clusters in which teams of USM faculty and students from a wide range of disciplines collaborate across traditional boundaries to bring knowledge to bear on issues of intellectual, scientific, social, economic, environmental and cultural importance and to work more effectively with the private sector, other institutions and the community.

USM Research Mission

To support research, scholarship and creative activity to: promote knowledge, discovery and practical application to advance Maine's economy, communities and the quality of life for Maine citizens; to strengthen classroom education and transform the lives of students through real world learning opportunities; and to support faculty and staff commitment to excellence in scholarly accomplishments regionally, nationally and internationally.
