Activity Fee (Mandatory)
Undergraduate students
Students taking undergraduate courses emanating from the Portland and/or Gorham campuses are assessed a mandatory student activity fee. The amount charged depends on the number of hours attempted. Students taking graduate level courses are not assessed this charge. Students registering for undergraduate courses taught at Lewiston/Auburn College or University of Maine System Off-Campus Centers are charged $1.50 per credit hour.

Distance Learning Course Support Fee
Students registering for classes offered over the University Network (UNET) are charged a $7.00 per credit fee to defray some mailing costs.
Insufficient Funds Fee (Mandatory)
A $25 fee is assessed when a check is returned or if a credit card used to pay tuition is declined.
Graduate Non Matriculated Fee
A $20.00 fee charged to students enrolled in a graduate course but not admitted in a USM graduate degree program.
Late Fee (Mandatory)
A $50.00 late fee (up to a maximum of $200.00 per semester) is assessed to students who do not pay University charges when due.
Meals (Optional)
The University offers a variety of meal plans. Information about the meal plans is available from Residential Life and Residential Education, Room 100, Upton Hall, Gorham (207-780-5240) or Dining Services, Campus Center, Portland (207-780-4039).
Off Campus Technology Fee
$6.00 Distance Learning fee for off-campus courses and distance courses on the Saco, Sanford, and Bath center locations.
Student Health Fee -Graduate and undergraduate
A mandatory $80.00 Health Fee is charged students registered for six or more credits of instructional activities emanating from the Portland and/or Gorham campus (does not include courses taught on the Lewiston-Auburn campus). Credits for regular classes taken at off-campus locations are omitted when determining this fee. Students who pay the fee can obtain free office visits (except for lab tests and some procedures) at Student Health Services. The Health Fee does NOT pay for lab tests, X-rays, hospitalization or other costs reimbursable through insurance, managed care or Medicaid (see below). Students not automatically assessed the Health Fee can voluntarily pay the Fee within the first four weeks of the spring semester in order to eliminate each office visit charge when using Student Health, or pay fee-for-service. Student Health Insurance (Optional)
Students may purchase insurance plans under policies made available by contract with the University of Southern Maine. These plans can provide financial coverage for health care costs incurred through Student Health, family physicians, or other health care providers.
A moderate cost 12 month basic insurance plan is available to students registered for 6 or more credit hours. Students must enroll by the end of the 4th week of the fall semester. Students who have enrolled in the fall for coverage throughout the 07/08 academic year are covered thru August 31, 2008 and do not need to enroll again for spring semester.

Testing and Assessment Fee
Students taking the English and/or math placement exams are charged $15.00 per test.
Transportation Fee (Mandatory)
Graduate and undergraduate students
A transportation fee is assessed to all student registered for courses emanating from the Portland and/or Gorham campuses. The fee structure is as follows:

This fee is assessed to students registered for courses being held on the LAC campus. $3.00/credit hour
Unified Fee - Graduate and Undergraduate students
A Unified Fee has replaced the Recreation Fee, Energy Fee, Technology Fee, Records Fee, Matriculation Fee and the Lewiston/Auburn College Student Development Fee.
