Club Sports: Basketball

Basketball Rules

Team: Five players are on the court to play at any time. A team 
must have at least three players to start a game. All players names must be 
entered onto the official scorecard.

Game Time: A game will consist of two twenty minute halves. The 
clock will run continuously until the last one minute of each half. At which 
time the clock will be stopped for the official's whistle and after each basket. 
Each team will be allowed two timeouts per half. In overtime a team will be 
given one additional timeout.

Offensive Fouls: Offensive fouls result in a change of 
possession.

Team Fouls: When a team commits it's seventh personal foul in a 
half the other 
team will be in the "bonus" situation. The result of this being the awarding of 
a one and one free throw for fouls that are committed, with the exception of 
shooting and offensive fouls. After the tenth team foul, two foul shots will be 
awarded for fouls that are committed.

Personal Fouls: A player will be allowed five fouls. After 
receiving the fifth the player should remove themselves from the game. When a 
player is called for a fouled they will tell their name to the officials, so 
that it can be recorded.

Technical Fouls: A player will be charged with a technical foul 
for arguing with, complaining to, directing smart remarks or swearing at the 
officials. All other outbursts of temper, inappropriate behavior, or 
unsportsmanlike conduct will also result in a technical foul. Do not argue with 
the officials! A technical foul will result in the other team getting one free 
throw and the ball out of bounds at half court. A technical foul counts as a 
personal foul. Any player that is ejected from a game will be suspended from the 
next scheduled game.

Substitutions: Substitutions must report to the scorekeeper. 
They can only enter the game on a whistle, and must be signaled in my the 
officials.

Overtime: Overtime will consist of a five minute running time, 
with the clock stopping the last minute. If at the end of overtime the score is 
still tied, each team will select five players to shoot alternating free throw. 
The best percentage wins. Ties in playoffs will be played out with overtime 
until one team wins.

Miscellaneous: Please do not wear baseball caps while playing. 
Proper shoes are required. Both teams must agree on which ball will be used for 
their game.

Any rules not appearing on this list will be played as in regular college 
basketball.
