As USM's executive director of public affairs, Bob Caswell is responsible for USM's communications, community relations, and legislative relations. He joined USM in 1980 after working for nearly six years as a reporter.
He is a former president of the Maine Public Relations Council, and was named the 1990 recipient of the Council's Edward L. Bernays Award for outstanding achievements in public relations. He was longtime chair of the Portland Regional Chamber's Communications Committee, and in 1999 received the Chamber's service award for PR and communications leadership. The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange named him the 2004 recipient of its Business Person of the Year Award. He also has served as a volunteer producer at Maine Public Radio, director of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation and chair of the scholarship organization, Mainely Character.
Bob, a 1974 USM graduate, is currently a member of the Maine Press Association Board of Directors, chair of the Maine Press Association Hall of Fame Committee, and member and former chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities' National PR Advisory Council.
He and his wife, Diane, are residents of Gorham.
