Sexual Pain Disorders

1. Dyspareunia
*    genital pain in a man or woman that is not due to a lack of lubrication in the vagina.
2. Vaginismus
*    involuntary spasm of the outer third of the vagina wall that prevents or interferes with sexual intercourse.

Etiology of Sexual Pain Disorders

1. Dyspareunia
*    Biological Causes
a)    injury to the female genitals during childbirth
b)    vaginal infections
2. Vaginismus
*    Psychological Causes
conditioned fear response set off by anticipation that vaginal penetration will be painful & damaging
