Prior Learning Assessment

Credential Review

Credential Review pertains to experiential learning situations included for college credit review by appropriate USM faculty and/or in National Guides. All options will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact the the Office for Prior Learning Assessment directly with any questions you may have.

Selected licenses, certificates, and credentials may qualify for elective credit through credential review. Examples include but are not limited to:

  • American Heart Association
  • American Red Cross
  • American Sign Language
  • Emergency Medical Technician
  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Maine Certified Fire Fighter One
  • Life Office Management Association
  • Maine Criminal Justice Academy
  • selected real estate certificates

Educational and training courses are offered by many organizations. Courses accepted for selected credit are found within two guides: National Guide to Educational Credit for Training Programs and The Directory of the National Programs on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction.
