Pioneers is a learning community bringing together the best and brightest students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.

The USM Pioneers Program is empowering a new generation of scientists, information technology specialists, engineers, and mathematicians. Pioneers engage in advanced cirriculum and highly innovative programming to maximize education growth.

By graduation, Pioneer scholars will have completed 1,000 hours of high-impact, experiential learning opportunities designed to deepen their knowledge in STEM and to prepare them for careers after graduation.

Thirteen high school graduates from throughout Maine have been selected as members of the University of Southern Maine Pioneers Program Class of 2016. The Pioneers consist of high school graduates, from all different parts of Maine, with all different types of STEM majors.
