This course provides students with an introduction to the characteristics and education of children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) who challenge the prevailing social and educational traditions and values of our schools, communities and families. The course will cover historical to current issues; the nature and prevalence of EBD; factors which influence EBD; and defining, assessing and intervening with children and youth who are described as having ADD, conduct disorders, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, eating/elimination/sleep disorders or pervasive developmental disorders. Completion of this course qualifies towards Maine Special Education Certification.
