This intensive one week summer institute is designed to present an overview of the various theories of sandtray/sandplay (both terms are used), to examine them in social and cultural contexts, and to gain expertise in utilizing the sandtray in therapeutic work. Since it is acknowledged that one cannot become a sandtray therapist without first experiencing this modality, this will be a practice based course. We will learn theory and practice by exploring these through the lens of actual sandtray work. Group supervision and focused introspection will be additional learning tools. The course is a Masters level course, an introductory course for sandtray, and may be used as a play therapy requirement for becoming a national registered play therapist (RPT).
