This course will explore the rich poetic resources available to teachers and students in today's classrooms. An in-depth view of contemporary poets writing for juvenile audiences, representing a diversity of cultures and poetic forms, will be provided. Teachers will learn activities that guide students to write poetry with enthusiasm and (occasional) regard for form. Participants will learn by doing, by reading and writing poetry. They will develop methods to include poetry in all areas of the curriculum and to integrate poetry into students' reading lives.
