Current Status
For Parents & Family
In June of 2006 USM formed a Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Planning Task Force to create a comprehensive plan for the USM community should a pandemic occur. This task has involved the participation of upwards of 60 members of the University staff who have a stake in both keeping the University running and keeping members of the university community safe, healthy, informed, prepared, and able to take appropriate action at the time of a pandemic crisis.
One method that will be implemented to protect the USM community is to "suspend classes and business as usual" early, well before a case of influenza reaches our campus if at all possible. It is assumed that in the face of a global public health disaster, students will want to be home with their families, and families will want their students at home with them. For those students who cannot get home for some reason, the University is preparing a plan to consolidate remaining students on the Gorham Campus and to provide basic supportive services including housing, food, security, health care, and mental health support.
Although a variety of methods of communication will be implemented to communicate with the University community during the crisis, this web site will serve as the official site for posting the latest and most up to date information from the University. At the height of the crisis (USM Stage 4 and 5, see Grid) and in the Recovery Stage, updates will occur at least daily. Please keep informed by continuing to check for updated information.
Additional information will be posted soon.
