Overview
Welcome to the Office of Support for Students with Disabilities (OSSD). The OSSD provides a wide range of services to qualified students with sensory, mobility, physical, psychological, cognitive, learning and attention disabilities enrolled in USM credit and non-credit bearing courses and programs.
Our mission is to work together with students, faculty, staff, and community to support the academic goals of students with disabilities. This is done by:
- Certifying and coordinating reasonable and effective accommodations to provide access for students with disabilities
- Minimizing physical and attitudinal barriers
- Building relationships and resources within the University and larger community.
Ultimately, we envision a University community that values the contributions of all members regardless of disability and provides the opportunity for them to realize their greatest potential.
In all its activities, OSSD seeks to balance the rights and responsibilities for both the student and the University within a philosophical framework that stresses student independence and self-reliance.
The staff of OSSD looks forward to working with you to help you achieve your educational goals at USM.
