SOP - CATHODE RAY TUBES (ELECTRONICS)
This standard operating procedure must be used to track, accumulate, store, and process spent (no longer usable) cathode ray tubes. This SOP applies to all USM related campuses. The supportive guide document is our USM policy "Universal Waste."
SOP FORMAT
1. Facilities Management will pick up units to be
recycled.
A. Recycling
upon pickup requests from USM units (academic, etc.) will transport units
to the USM accumulation site at 46 Bedford Street.
NOTE: Be careful to avoid unit breakage.
2. Shipping containers - Gaylord boxes to be placed
on 4 way pallets optimally sized at 48" x
40"; no oversized pallets will
be used.
3. Deposit units into Gaylord storage boxes appropriately
marked.
A. Monitors
- no glass on glass; use one layer of cardboard on bottom of box, place
CRTs
face down on cardboard. When one layer is complete, place another layer
of
cardboard down on first layer of CRTs; begin second layer of CRTs. Cover
with
cardboard or stretch wrap top of Gaylord.
NOTE: Place IRN identification sticker on each
Gaylord.
(1) Stacking specifics:
(a) Stack monitors square on each level.
(b) 15" monitors - 9 monitors equal one level.
(c) Stack monitors 6' high (equals 36 - 15" monitors).
(d) Stretch wrap entire pallet stack starting with typing
stretch wrap to base of
pallet; completely wrap the pallet stack tightly so no shifting occurs
during
leading or transport.
B. Keyboards,
Printers, CPUs, and Miscellaneous (wires and cables):
(1) Each is to be placed in respective Gaylord boxes.
(2) Stretch wrapped per procedure provided in 3A.
(3) Place IRN identification sticker on each Gaylord.
