2008 IRB Symposium Highlights
Event Details
The first Maine IRB Symposium was held on April 16, 2008 at the Abromson Center. This event, the first of its kind in Maine, was coordinated and hosted by the USM Office of Research Compliance. The event was organized by Debi Briskey, and consisted of substantive sessions presented by ORC staff Lliam Harrison, Chris Mangelli, Ross Hickey, and LAC associate professor, Carol Nemeroff. The keynote speaker was Freda Yoder from the Office of Human Research Protection at the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
The event was well attended, with people coming from each of the seven University of Maine System Campuses, Bowdoin College, University of New England, Maine Medical Center, Central Maine Medical Center, the Foundation for Blood Research, and Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The USM ORC has been steadily gaining recognition as a national leader in the field of human subject protection. This symposium cemented that reputation in Maine.
