Cage Rates for USM Animal Facility
Effective August 1, 2008, USM will be
increasing animal cage rates. All rates are per cage, not per
animal. Last year’s per day rates were $.44 per mouse cage and
$.71 per rat cage.
Cage rates include the direct expenses of
daily animal care. These include cage & water bottle
preparation, autoclaving, changing, dumping, washing, and the
materials involved to perform these tasks. Also included are the
costs of routine serology used to maintain the health of the
entire research colony. The cage rates for the time period
August 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 are as follows:

maintenance, equipment maintenance, or administrative costs for
the animal facility.
Cage rate billing will be performed
monthly, with charges being based on the number of days in the
month and a monthly average for the number of cages.
