OLLI students invited to Osher map exhibit
OLLI students have an opportunity Tuesday, Nov. 8, to attend a docent-led tour of a special exhibit at the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education. The exhibit, The Grand Tour and Development of Tourism, traces the Grand Tour as a rite of passage for the British gentry from about 1660 until the early modern era (the 1840s), when railroad and steamships introduced mass tourism as we experience it today.
The tour runs from 11:45 a.m. to 12.25 p.m. Meet in the Cohen Educational Center on the first floor of the Osher Map Library for the tour.
Since gallery capacity is limited to 25, OLLI students should RSVP by calling 780-4850 or by e-mailing oml@usm.maine.edu.
