Student Conduct Information for Faculty
This flow chart outlines the process that
faculty will use to respond to violations of the academic integrity
policy regarding cheating, plagiarism, and fabrication.
These are the detailed instructions that the
faculty member will use when responding to a violation.
Since the chairperson of the department is also involved in
the process, the chairperson also receives the instructions the
first time a faculty member in their department is responding to a
violation. Also included is a sample letter to be sent to the
student.
While certain disruptive behaviors have
occurred in classrooms for many years (ex:
sleeping in class and excessive lateness) newer disruptive
behaviors are arising and with more frequency (ex: cell phone and
pagers going off and verbal or written threats directly or
indirectly towards faculty). This list includes the most common behaviors that are
disruptive to the teaching and learning environment.
Faculty member are encouraged to inform students at the
beginning of the course of the expectations the faculty member has
for many of the behavior in the list.
It is advisable for this information to be included as part
of the syllabus for the course.
This is the list of 42 behaviors that are
considered violations of the Student Conduct Code as approved by the
Board of Trustees for the University of Maine System May 22, 2000.
The first three are the academic violations that can be
adjudicated by faculty. The
remaining 39 are the nonacademic violations adjudicated by through
the Office of Community Standards directly.
