USM String Program

Strings: Applied study

The University of Southern Maine string faculty, comprised of some of the finest musicians in the Northeast, offers private instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, and lute.

One of the most unique and attractive aspects of USM's faculty is that each and every one is an active, professional, performing musician. They are out in the professional world doing exactly what their students are striving to do. There can be no finer example or environment in which to learn.

The Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, made up of both university and non-university students, rehearses under the direction of Robert Lehmann and gives at least two public performances a year.

Chamber ensembles are formed with coaching sessions and performance opportunities available. In accordance with USM's commitment to the community, any or all of the aforementioned activities are open to qualified musicians of any age.

Harp students at the University of Southern Maine have the distinction of receiving outstanding private instruction, as well as ample performance opportunities; solo, chamber ensembles, and orchestra.
