Kristen Stearns senior voice recital
The USM School of Music presents Kristen Stearns, soprano, in her senior recital. She has been a student of Christina Astrachan for the five years she has been at USM, and is a music education major.
The recital program will include works by Purcell, Haydn, Mozart, Barber, Bizet, Délibes, and Lloyd Weber. Kristen will be assisted by Kathleen Scott, piano, Molly Massa, soprano, and Justin Roux, Baritone.
Kristen's decision to study music education came after working with Peter Stickney, the choral director at Massabesic High School. She has always enjoyed teaching others and working with kids, especially after having two nieces of her own. She says it's such a rewarding field to help young people find their creative outlet. Mostly, though, it was Stickney's influence, making his work look like it was filled with enjoyment while helping the kids reach their potential.
At USM, Kristen has sung with the USM Chamber Singers for two and a half years, participating in the 2011 Spain tour, and she sang with the USM Chorale for two years. Outside of USM, she has been a cantor and choir member at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Lyman. At Massabesic High School, she was in the choir and chamber singers for four years, and sang at the District 1 festival for three years and All State for two.
All student recitals are free and open to the public.
