This Year’s Theme
‘Tis the
gift are the first three words of the inspirational Shaker song written
by Elder Joseph Brackett who was born in
Cumberland, Maine,
on May 6, 1797, lived in Gorham and Poland Springs, ME and settled in the
Shaker community at Sabbathday Lake. It was later made popular in Aaron
Copland’s Appalachian Spring. This year’s gala will pay homage to the
lovely Shaker tradition in food and song while also incorporating the
heartwarming traditions of our winter holiday celebration.
Entertainment and Fine Cuisine Abound
Live music will be performed by University music students
starting with hors d’oeuvres, continuing with tableside serenading during
the festive holiday banquet, leading to a spectacular live auction and then
a musical finale - the Grand Centerpiece Concert. Coffee and dessert with
musical accompaniment in the main lobby will crown our annual gift to you.
Scholarships
This is always a highly entertaining, musically
excellent, delicious and unique evening; a sparkling and popular prelude to
the holiday season, a tradition for hundreds. Join us and while experiencing
our joyful revel, know that your support will also be providing scholarship
awards for talented and worthy students at the University of Southern Maine
School of Music.
