The USM School of Music belongs to you, the people of Maine. From its distinguished faculty to its talented students; from its ambitious schedule of performances to its outreach throughout the state's elementary and secondary schools; to its residencies, master classes, summer music camps, USM/Fleet Youth Ensembles and other activities, the School consistently plays a major role in enhancing the quality of musical instruction and performance throughout the state and the region.

Your tax deductible contribution will make a difference. Whether it be designated for application to a named scholarship or to the general fund, you can be assured that it will play an important role in the School's continued growth and success, growth that ultimately benefits you. Please consider joining hands with our many other "Friends."

Donations may be designated to the following areas,

General Music Fund: Contributions to the General Music Fund help purchase and maintain instruments, provide students with scholarships and generally work to support programs such as guest artist residencies, concerts, etc

USM Youth Ensemble Program  (Portland Youth Ensembles)

The USM School of Music assumed management of the Portland Youth Ensembles in the summer of 1997.  These highly respected groups serve hundreds of young musicians between the ages of 8 and 18 from a wide geographic area and provide a vital ensemble experience for young people who are passionate about music and committed to performing with others at a high level.  The ensembles are supported in part with generous underwriting by the Sam L. Cohen Foundation.

Betty W. Atterbury Teaching Award: Established in 1997, this award is granted to a senior student who has shown dedication to the profession and exceptional promise as a music educator. Atterbury, a former full-time faculty member, passed away in the summer of 1998. Our hope is that the award will continue to assist young educators as they prepare to begin their teaching careers.

Jerry Bowder Memorial Scholarship Fund: Bowder, former chair of the USM School of Music, was a composer of works ranging from those for solo voice to full concert band. He fostered the composing call in many young students during his lengthy teaching career at USM. This scholarship fund serves to provide financial support to outstanding entering music students.
