Fools No More Parade

March 30, 2005

A parade for peace will be part of the First Friday Art Walk on Congress St., Portland, this Friday, April 1. The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Congress Square (Congress and High Streets, Portland), and conclude at Monument Square where participants will proceed to a pot-luck dinner at the Chestnut Street Methodist Church.

The "Fools No More Parade" will feature individuals and groups who accepted the invitation to "transform weapons, convert military uniforms, build giant puppets, beat on drums and commit 'acts of mass creation'" during the monthly art walk in Portland.

Between 75-100 adults and children are expected to march, representing art students from the University of Southern Maine and the Maine College of Art, the women's drumming group Inanna, Portland's Shoestring Theatre, Blue Hill's Democracy Street Group, Peace Action Maine, and Maine Unitarian Churches, among others.

The parade will take place rain or shine. If rain is very heavy, participants will parade in the Chestnut Street Methodist Church gymnasium.

For more information about the parade, contact Bruce Gagnon at 207-729-0517. His cell phone number is 207-319-2017.
