February 23, 2005

Nearly 1,000 school-age children, their parents, engineers and educators are expected to gather in Gorham this Saturday to take part in an interactive exposition that is designed to spark interest in the field of engineering among Maine K-12 students.

On Saturday, February 26, the University of Southern Maine will host the 2005 E-Week Exposition as part of Maine's National Engineers Week celebration. The annual E-Week Exposition will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at USM's Costello Sports Complex on the Gorham campus. The daylong program will provide students opportunity to interact with engineers from all disciplines who will share their knowledge of engineering and technology. The Exposition will feature more than 50 interactive displays and demonstrations by Maine engineering and manufacturing firms, agencies and associations, and engineering colleges to challenge children and adults alike. Other event highlights include a "Meet the Engineers" panel discussion beginning at 1:30 and tours of USM's newly renovated John Mitchell Center, home to the University's School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology.

Admission is $2 per person at the registration table. The first 500 young people to attend the event will receive a free T-shirt. For more information, visit www.engineeringme.com or call (207) 848-5569.
