News ReleasesBusiness Plan Competition Draws Downeast Teams - University of Maine Now RepresentedJanuary 28, 2005 The four-year-old USM Student Business Plan Competition has attracted participation from three more higher education institutions. Ten student teams from the University of Maine at Orono are among the 26 registered to compete for $25,000 in cash and services in this year's expanded USM Student Business Plan Competition hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Southern Maine's School of Business. The current competition has 13 teams from USM and three from SMCC. In addition, teams from the University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Maine at Machias are observing the competition and with the intention of competing next year. The competition, now in its fourth year, was opened to Southern Maine Community College students last year, and to all the state's private and public universities and colleges for the 2005 round. This year, team members represent business administration, engineering, nursing, arts & sciences and education and are pursuing undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees. Student teams develop their original business ideas into solid business plans, with expertise and mentoring made available from academic and business experts provided by the Center for Entrepreneurship, the USM Corporate Partners and other community organizations.
