USM Foundation Board Welcomes New Members

Stephen M. Anderson of Yarmouth, Amanda V. Rand of Falmouth,
and William J. Ryan of Cumberland have joined the University
of Southern Maine Foundation Board of Directors.
Anderson is senior vice president of investments at A.G.
Edwards and Sons, Inc. Prior to his investment career, he
worked in education as the director of development and admissions
for Gould Academy in Bethel, and as director of admissions
for the Tilton School in New Hampshire. Anderson is chair
of the Tilton School Board of Trustees, a member of Maine
Medical CenterŐs Board of Corporators, and chaired the 1992
Maine Medical CenterŐs Annual Fund. He is a graduate of Ohio
University.
Rand is an associate attorney at Pierce Atwood. She was previously
an associate attorney with Ropes and Gray of Boston, as well
as an intern with the Public Defender Service in Washington,
D.C. Rand is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law
School.
Ryan is chairman, president and CEO of Banknorth Group, Inc.
He serves as a trustee of Colby College, a director of Anthem
Blue Cross/Blue Shield, a director of Maine Machine Products
Company, and as a trustee of the Libra Foundation. Ryan is
a graduate of St. Francis College in N.Y. and the Stonier
Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
The USM Foundation is a private, non-profit group established
to receive and manage donations made to USM. By 2008, the
foundation plans to have a $30 million dollar endowment, including
five endowed chairs. Foundation officers include David Hawkes,
president; Elaine Rosen, vice president, and Christopher Robinson,
treasurer.
