New Continuing Education Courses at USM Serve the Larger
Community
April 2, 2004
The USM Center for Continuing Education has added many new
courses to their current Spring/Summer 2004 schedule that
reflect state business and community needs. To highlight the
state's commitment to small businesses, the center created
a comprehensive series to promote growth and development in
this important sector of Maine's economy. Workshops will help
to enhance the management, marketing, accounting, and advertising
skills of Maine's small business owners and managers.
The center will also offer a number of courses to strengthen
the leadership and management skills of those working with
non-profits. One workshop called "The Refugee Journey: Listening
With an Open Heart," will help service providers better understand
Maine's growing refugee community and how to assist them and
their families.
Also to address Maine's increasing obesity and diabetes rates,
the center has created a course examining the "Metabolic Syndrome,"
itŐs components and treatment options.
The USM Center for Continuing Education will offer 166 courses
in its Spring/Summer 2004 session. The center offers a wide
range of noncredit courses with topics ranging from personal
enrichment to professional certificate programs and workshops.
