WELLS, Maine Ð The presidents of the University of Southern Maine and York County Community College signed a Joint Admissions Agreement today that provides for a "seamless" transfer between the two institutions.

YCCC President Patricia Ryan welcomed USM President Richard Pattenaude on Wednesday, November 5, for a signing ceremony to announce a transfer agreement between the College and the University.

USM and YCCC have worked together to create a system making transfer from YCCC to USM easier for students. The agreement offers students enrolled in YCCC's Associate in Arts program guaranteed admission to USM. Once students at YCCC complete their two-year associate degree they will be enrolled as college juniors at USM.

Both Presidents agreed that the agreement is designed to give students easier access to an education by insuring that they do not lose credits or benefits when transferring between the two institutions. "Partnerships in education is one key to providing opportunities for our high achieving students," said Ryan.

"USM has always enjoyed working with Maine's community colleges to ensure access to higher education for all of Maine's citizens," said USM President Richard L. Pattenaude. "This agreement with York County Community Colleges is the most recent agreement with a Community College, developed to ensure students a smooth transition from two-year to four-year academic programs. The focus of our programs are different, but our campuses share a common mission, which is to expand educational opportunities for the people of Maine."

The two colleges share a common mission to expand opportunities for the people of Maine. This partnership agreement will allow students to seamlessly continue their education with "minimal paper flow."
