The Future of Capitalism??
March 5, 2002
People have changed more than the corporations upon which
their well-being depends. In fact, capitalism has outlived
the society it was once designed to serve. Today's consumers
want advocates not adversaries, and relationships not anonymous
transactions.
These are the basic premises of a new book ("The Support
Economy: Why Corporations Are Failing Individuals and the
Next Episode of Capitalism") by Harvard professor Shoshana
Zuboff and her husband, James Maxmin, former CEO of Volvo,
Thorn EMI, and Laura Ashley.
The couple will give a free, public lecture on the future
of capitalism at 7:45 a.m., this Friday, March 7, in USM's
Luther Bonney Auditorium, Portland. The USM School of Business
and the Harvard Business School Club of Maine are sponsors
of the event. For more information, call the USM School of
Business at 780-4668.
Zuboff, author of "In The Age of the Smart Machine,"
has been featured in The New York Times, Business Week, and
many other publications.
