Workplace Wellness Classes Offered through Lifeline

The Southern Maine Wellness Council is presenting a certificate program on workplace wellness with the support of the University of Southern Maine's Lifeline Center for Fitness, Recreation & Rehabilitation and co-sponsored by MaineHealth Learning Resource Centers. This is one of the first workplace wellness courses of its kind offered in Maine.

With health care costs on the rise, employers seek to find ways to reduce costs while increasing productivity. With the workplace as an ideal setting for making employees aware of their personal health, numerous companies across the country are initiating wellness programs.

his course emphasizes the latest research and trends for reducing health care utilization, improving worker productivity and reducing absenteeism/workplace injuries. It also provides an interactive learning experience with opportunities to network and share.

One of the course faculty members, Dean Patterson is a long-time health professional who has been acknowledged for her successful wellness programs. She currently manages her own health consulting business, specializing in health care management and strategic planning for heath care delivery systems.

Classes will be held on six Tuesdays, April 22 to June 3, (no class is held on May 27). Meetings are scheduled from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Scarborough Campus of Maine Medical Center (directions available upon request).
