USM Muskie School Appoints Mills, Flanagan to Board of Visitors

Portland, ME - USM's Muskie School has named Representative Peter Mills of the Maine State House of Representatives and former gubernatorial candidate David Flanagan to its Board of Visitors, a group of community members formed in 1990 to serve as external advisors and advocates.

David Flanagan is the former president and chief executive officer of CMP Group, Inc., the parent company of Central Maine Power Company and other businesses, and was the 2002 Independent Candidate for Maine Governor. He has worked extensively in Maine state government and has served as chairman on a number of boards. He is a graduate of Harvard College, holds a master's degree from the University of London, a law degree from Boston College and an honorary doctorate from Thomas College.

Representative Peter Mills, a partner of Wright & Mills, P.A. in Skowhegan, has practiced law in Maine for 30 years. First elected to the Maine Legislature as a senator in 1994, Mills has served in the 117th - 121st Legislatures and currently represents District 108 (Canaan, Cornville, Hartland, Palmyra and St. Albans). He is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Maine School of Law.

The Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine offers master's degree programs in community planning and development, health policy and management, and public policy and management, as well as a doctoral degree in public policy. More than 300 staff conduct applied research and offer technical assistance in health policy, child welfare and related areas in all 50 states and in each of Maine's 16 counties.
