Awards Presented at 2003 Law School Graduation
The Faculty Scholastic Achievement Award is given to the
member of the senior class who achieves, over three years
of law study, the highest academic average. Recipient: Katharine
I. Moore, Portland, Me.
The Cumberland Bar Association Award is presented to the
graduating senior who, in the determination of the faculty,
has made the greatest contribution to the development of the
school through scholarship, work on the student-published
Maine Law Review, and other activities. Recipient: Jennifer
A. Williams, Portland, Me.
The Faculty Significant Achievement Awards are presented
to graduates whose academic performance and overall contribution
to the school have been outstanding. Recipients: John G. Bean,
Farmington, Me., Daniel I. Billings, Bowdoinham, Me., Dawn-Marie
Harmon, So. Portland, Me., Sarah J. I. Marble, Buxton, Me.,
Jennifer A. Williams, Portland, Me.
The Gignoux Award for Appellate Advocacy is presented to
the graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence in advocacy
skills through clinical practice, moot court, or other curricular
or extracurricular programs. Recipient: Valerie Lovely, Wells,
Me.
The Faculty Award for Trial Advocacy is given for outstanding
performance in advocacy courses. Recipients: Lisa R. Bogue,
Wilton, Me., Charles W. Olcott, Kennebunk, Me.
Wernick Prize for Legal Writing is given to the student
who has submitted the best piece of legal scholarship during
the year. Recipient: Peter C. Felmly, Manchester, N.H.
Independent Writing Project is awarded for the best Independent
Writing Project. Recipient: Rick Doyle, Bangor, Me.
ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual
Property Law is given for excellence in intellectual property
law courses. Recipient: Patrick D. Archibald, East Hampstead,
N.H.
ABA Award for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law is
given for excellence in labor and employment law courses.
Recipient: Todd D. Ross, Lake Winola, Pa.
ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Health Law
is given for excellence in health law courses. Recipient:
Kenneth J. Albert III, Lewiston, Me.
American Bankruptcy Institute Medal for Excellence in Bankruptcy
Studies is presented for excellence in bankruptcy studies.
Recipient: Jennifer A. Williams, Portland, Me.
Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Awards are presented
for outstanding performance in selected areas of the curriculum.
Recipients: Elizabeth A. Hoag, Buxton, Me., Katherine A. Joyce,

Wright, Portland, Me.
National Association of Women Lawyers Recognition Award
is presented to a graduate who has contributed to the advancement
of women in society and promoted issues and concerns of women
in the legal profession. Recipient: Sarah J. I. Marble, Buxton,
Me.
The Maine State Bar Association Pro Bono Student Award is
given to the student whose legal service to the community,
without compensation or academic credit, exemplifies the legal
profession's tradition of pro bono service. The recipient
is selected by the dean and faculty after consultation with
the president of the Maine State Bar Association. Recipients:

The Law Alumni Association Award is presented to an outstanding
member of the senior class. Recipient: Denis Culley, Mercer,
Me.
The Student Bar Association Distinguished Service Award
is given for distinguished service to the student body. Recipient:
