USM's Annual Fund Exceeds Expectations
The University of Southern Maine recently concluded the
most successful Annual Fund in its history thanks, in part,
to Maine's businesses which increased giving by 41 percent.
Giving was up by all groups who donated to the Annual Fund
-- staff, alumni, friends and corporations, with employee
donations increasing over 100 percent above last year's total.
Final tallies show giving was up 26 percent over last year,
and easily passed this Fund's goal of $750,000 for a final
tally of $814,350.
Cape Elizabeth's Deb Gallant served as chair of the annual
fund, and will continue as chair for next year's campaign.
The 1975 USM graduate is the founder of D. Gallant Associates,
a human resource consulting firm in Portland. Gallant is also
a member of USM's Corporate Partners, a group of more than
150 businesses formed in 1989 to develop alliances between
the business community and the University.
"It was easy to generate enthusiasm in the community to
donate to such a good cause," said Gallant. "The commitment
shown USM is significant during a time when annual giving
to organizations is declining. The fact that USM's Annual
Fund grew substantially is a tribute to the great work being
done at USM and the community's recognition of USM as our
public regional university."
