L-A College to Host Colloquium
The faculty, staff and students of USM's Lewiston-Auburn
College are inviting members of the community to a spring
colloquium titled "Agenda for Change: Social Justice, Faith,
& Families in the 21st Century." The event will be held at
Lewiston-Auburn College on Saturday, March 1.
"We envision this event to be a continuation of the wonderful
community support for our international neighbors that has
been going on in the Lewiston-Auburn area over the last several
months," noted Barry Rodrigue, assistant professor at the
College. The featured speakers will include Archbishop Lazar
Puhalo of the Orthodox Church in America, Kraig Schwartz of
Seattle Central Community College, and Penelope Graham of
Bath, Maine. "Archbishop Puhalo, Dr. Schwartz, and Ms. Graham
are three of the most powerful and down-to-earth speakers
that I have had the privilege to hear speak on issues pertaining
to justice, spirituality, families, and society," added Rodrigue.
The colloquium on March 1 is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
with a light breakfast of coffee and rolls followed by the
presentations of Archbishop Lazar, Dr. Schwartz, and Ms. Graham.
This will be followed by a discussion hosted by members of
the International Student Organization of Lewiston-Auburn
(ISOLA), and students in the Arts & Humanities program and
Western Civilization II class. A potluck lunch will be followed
by music, song, and poetry from local talent and professional
Near Eastern musicians. The program will adjourn at 2 p.m.
Anyone wishing to help or participate in this event by being
a sponsor or hosting an information table is asked to contact
Rodrigue at 753-6574, rodrigue@usm.maine.edu.
Those who may want to play music, sing, dance, or cook some
food are also encouraged to call.
