University of Southern Maine Presents the Portland Playback Theatre Performing “Holidays from Heaven and Hell” October 25 , 2007 Date: Wednesday, 7 p.m., November 14, 2007 We all know how rich and emotionally complex the holiday season can be. Portland Playback Theatre invites the audience to bring a favorite holiday memory to share at this performance and watch the actors play it back. Portland Playback Theatre performs entirely without a script. The actors have only one source of inspiration: the stories that are shared by members of the audience. This is not improvisational comedy. These true stories from the lives of the audience are sometimes serious, often poignant, occasionally hilarious, but always revelatory. Over the past year, whether for the general public or for private organizations, PPT has enacted hundreds of stories, ranging from the birth of triplets or surviving gunfire in Vietnam, to simple, yet meaningful moments when "nothing much" really happened, yet everything changed. The audience becomes a community of empathic witnesses, who recognize both the unique and the universal in each experience as it is shared. As the actors spontaneously embody the experience of the teller, the enactments themselves often seem magical. Audience size will be limited, so we recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance.
