News ReleasesUSM Hosts A Hysterical Maine Event February 29, 2008 The University of Southern Maine’s “Evenings at Abromson” series continues at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 27, with a comedy show presented by the Maine Hysterical Society. The performance will take place in the Abromson Community Education Center on USM’s Portland campus. Three comedians will focus on Maine characters, performing original songs and juggling, while taking stabs at life in Maine. Tickets are $15 public; $10 USM students/staff and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or at the door. Among the trio of veteran comedians is Randy Junkins, a teacher of master classes at the Juilliard School of Drama in NYC; Barney Martin, a Maine television commercial actor; and Steve Underwood, founder of Good Theater Productions at the St. Lawrence Arts Center. With wacky tales and tunes, including an audition sketch titled, “Bean Supper in Maine,”these eccentric characters will entertain in a way only the Maine Hysterical Society can. Upcoming Evenings at Abromson Events Upcoming events at Abromson include a CD release party for “Swingin,’” a new release by USM’s Jazz Ensemble and Lab Jazz Ensemble, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 22; and “Childhood Revisited: An Evening of Storytelling,” featuring storytellers Deborah Freedman, Michael Parent and Lorna Stengl, at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8.
