Yale University Professor to Speak at USM about Jimi Hendrix November 30, 2007 Matthew Frye Jacobson, a professor of American studies, African American studies, and history at Yale University will give a free public lecture titled "Can You See Me? Reading ‘Race’ in the Jimi Hendrix Experience" at 7 p.m., Thursday, December 6, in the University Events Room, USM’s Glickman Family Library. The lecture is part of USM’s American and New England Studies Lecture Series. Most recently, Jacobson won the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award for “Roots Too: White Ethnic Revival in Post-Civil Rights America” (2006). He is currently at work on a study of anti-racism in the U.S. culture in the post-war years, “Odetta's voice and Other Weapons: The Civil Rights Era as Cultural History.” For more information about this event, please call Arline Palmer at 780-4920.
