News ReleasesMiddle School Engineering Campers Unveil Their Gizmo on Friday, June 27 June 25, 2008 Over 20 middle school students in grades 7-8 are learning more about engineering and technology at USM’s School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (ASET) Summer Camp this week in Gorham. They also are building a “Gizmo” – a Rube Goldberg kind of whimsical machine – that they will unveil to their families Friday, June 27. The media is invited to the unveiling of the Gizmo that will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, June 27 in Room 181 of USM’s Mitchell Center in Gorham. For more information on ASET Camp at USM, contact Bonnie Stearns at (207) 780-5050. The camp’s theme this year is “Gizmos,” a theme designed to provide these young students with the hands-on opportunity to explore the fields of science and technology. During the camp students learn about and interact with mechanisms and machines as they each design and build a Gizmo part that will be joined together into one large machine for Friday’s demonstration.
