USM Corporate Partners Host “Breakfast With Charlie” January 3, 2008 EDITOR’S NOTE: “Breakfast with Charlie,” otherwise known as USM Charles Colgan’s economic forecast for 2008, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 9. Details below. TIME: 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, January 9. For the purposes of planning coverage, the actual presentation should begin at about 7:45 a.m. and end no later than 9. PLACE: The 2008 edition will be held in USM’s Hannaford Lecture Hall, Bedford Street, Portland. Some 400-500 members of the business community are expected. Hannaford Lecture Hall is part of USM’s Joel and Linda Abromson Community Education Center. Free parking will be available in the attached garage. BACKGROUND: “Breakfast with Charlie” is sponsored by the USM Corporate Partners. Colgan’s economic predictions for 2008 will be based on his analysis of employment trends, income, retail sales and a range of other indicators. Colgan, a professor of public policy and management in USM's Muskie School of Public Service and former state economist, serves as a research fellow at the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. He also chairs the Maine Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission, which prepares an economic outlook report for state budget preparation.
