USM School of Business Hosts Executive Forum 2007
October 9, 2007 Richard Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes magazine, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s USM School of Business Executive Forum – “Driving Maine’s Future: Small Business & Entrepreneurship” – at it’s new location in the USM Abromson Community Education Center, on the Portland campus. The forum begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 12 noon. There is a $95.00 registration fee. On Tuesday, October 23, Karlgaard will deliver “The Power of Small Business and Entrepreneurship: Putting Maine on the Global Map.” Karlgaard will speak on Maine gaining ground as a global competitor with the help of its small, family-owned businesses. Other speakers include, Laurie Lachance, president of the Maine Development Foundation and former Maine State economist, as well as James Wilfong, former U.S. Small Business Administration’s assistant for international trade during the Clinton administration. Karlgaard has co-founded Garage Technology Ventures (1997), “Upside Magazine” (1988) and Churchill Club, a civic organization that earned him co-winner of the Ernst & Young Northern California “Entrepreneur of the Year” award. He writes a blog that appears on Forbes.com. In every issue of Forbes, Karlgaard writes a column called “Digital Rules,” which explores technology, entrepreneurship, regional and economical development, and the future of business and work. Richard Karlgaard was born in Bismark, North Dakota. Karlgaard has written a best-selling book, “Life 2.0 – How People Across America Are Transforming Their Lives by Finding the Where of Their Happiness,”and has a passion for flying his single-engine plane.
