Informational Session on Educational Psychology M.S. that focuses on Applied Behavior Analysis to be held Tuesday, April 8, 2008

March 31, 2008

An informational session on USM’s master’s degree in educational psychology that focuses on applied behavior analysis will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 8 in 301 Bailey Hall, USM Gorham campus.

The 33-credit master of science in educational psychology focuses on applied behavior analysis which uses evidence-based practices and it is widely accepted as the most effective treatment for a wide range of social, emotional, academic, and behavioral diagnoses and concerns.

The degree prepares students to become Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). Attainment of the BCBA credential requires work beyond the master’s degree.  Those who want to become a BCBA need to complete the coursework, complete an approved supervised work experience, and must pass a national exam.  There is a shortage of BCBAs in Maine.

This degree encompasses the recently developed Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis which is also offered by USM’s School Psychology Program. The Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis program began in Spring 2007 and is available to students who already have a master’s degree.

Applications will be accepted once a year on a December 1 deadline. Students accepted to the program can begin classes in the following summer or fall.

Information on the school psychology doctoral program will also be featured at the April 8 informational session.

Please RSVP for the informational session by contacting Rose Mahoney, USM School Psychology Program at rmahoney@usm.maine.edu or 780-5220, or visit www.usm.maine.edu/cehd/Educational-Psychology/
