USM Premiers Film about Cutting and Self-Injury to Educate Students and Public

September 27, 2007

Film producer and director Wendy Schneider, will be on hand at the Maine premier of her documentary “CUT: Teens and Self Injury”. The University of Southern Maine will show the film on Monday, October 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in room 101 of Bailey Hall in Gorham. This film will enlighten and educate the community and all students of the issues surrounding self-injury. Schneider will be available for interviews and can be reached at 608-239-5771 or btype35@aol.com.

“CUT: Teens and Self Injury” is meant to give an intimate look into a largely unacknowledged problem facing thousands of young people, their friends and family. Using words, music and art directly from the teens themselves, Schneider provides a look into the cycle of self-harm and brings the issue into a clear focus.

The film is free and open to USM students and the public, and will be followed by a guided discussion by Schneider, with time for questions. Representatives from USM’s Counseling Services will be available for USM students who wish to talk.

For more information, contact Susan Feiner at 780-4966 or sffein@usm.maine.edu, and visit the film’s Web site at www.cutthemovie.com.
