Educators at USM Connecting Science & Math to Critical Civic Questions

Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER), a national organization formed to get more students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, is holding its annual Summer Institute now through Monday, August 6, on USM’s Portland campus.

Some 300 educators from 24 states and several foreign countries   are attending sessions ranging from how to engage more minority students in science courses and careers, to how to teach controversial topics in science.

Since its founding in 2001, SENCER has supported faculty, students, academic leaders, and others to improve undergraduate science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education by connecting learning to critical civic questions.

TIME:

Sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, August 4; from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Sunday, August 5; and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, August 6.

All sessions will be held at various locations on USM’s Portland campus.  The conference headquarters is located in the USM Abromson Center, Bedford St., Portland.
