News ReleasesUSM Lifeline Celebrates 30th Anniversary SCHEDULE OF EVENTSFriday, November 3, 2006 Lifeline invites you to help us celebrate 30 years of bringing healthy lifestyle programs of education and exercise to the USM and greater Portland communities. Several opportunities for you to engage in exercise classes, heart healthy presentations, and special recreational activities have been scheduled. This will be a day-long celebration with Lifeline staff and supporting presenters on hand to give all attending a great experience in healthy living. Come and join us for an exciting and fun day. MORNING PROGRAM6:15 a.m Fit Ball and Walk-Jog Exercise Class Observation and participation. 7:30 a.m. Heartline Cardiac Rehab. Class If you have heart disease, this class will provide you with an excellent opportunity to see what exercise can do you for you. 9:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Enhanced Fitness for 50+ Seniors are encouraged to observe and participate in this award-winning program. There will be a special chair exercise group open to all who wish to learn safe exercise. 11:00 a.m. Advanced Weight Training with Stephanie Stephanie Ross is an AWPC World Champion in Women’s Masters Powerlifting. She will be sharing and demonstrating proper and safe lifting technique. AFTERNOON PROGRAM12:00 p.m. Welcome opening with Lifeline Executive Director, Tom Downing. Main Gym exhibits and presentations for the afternoon. 12:30 p.m. Latin Line Dancing with Patty Medina Patty is a highly experienced and passionate instructor who is all about fun forms of exercise. Her exciting instructor style makes for a fun class. Come and have a blast! 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (ongoing) Massage Therapy with Holistic Body Works Join the relaxation generation and experience soothing massage by Jill Siegel and Susan Eastman, our Lifeline Massage Team. 1:00 p.m. Martial Arts Self-Defense with Vicky and Peter Lifeline Instructor, Vicky Packard, and Lifeline Fitness Manager, Peter Allen, will be teaching you the way of self-defense while showing you how to use this as a fun way to exercise. 1:00 p.m. Heart Healthy Cooking Class with Michele Michele Howard, Lifeline Dietitian, will be showing you how to prepare a meal with choices good for your heart. 2:00 p.m. Spinal Fitness with Patty Medina Patty will teach you how to perform the exercises to help preserve back strength and flexibility. Prevention of back injuries is the goal. 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (ongoing) Maine in Motion Nordic Walking Guide Clinic Provided by instructor from the Governor’s Council on Physical Activity. Learn how to use specially designed poles to “make every step count.” 3:00 p.m. Belly Dancing for the Body, Mind, and Soul Instructor Kimberly Sinclair will show you how to perform one of the oldest exercises in the world. And it’s fun too! 4:00 p.m. Heart Healthy A walk through risks and how to reduce them for heart disease. Rehab. Manager, Len Jordan, will give you valuable up-to-date information on how to lower your risk for developing the nation’s number one killer. 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Fit ball and Boot Camp Meet and talk with Lifeline Instructor, Bruce Koharian, and observe and participate in Fit Ball and/or Bruce’s famous “Boot Camp.” This will be a fun day meeting Lifeline staff, getting excellent advice on fitness programs and techniques, and taking away a tip or two on healthy living.
